Part 3 · Chapter 11

Home vs Clinic-Based Programmes

By the end of this chapter, the reader should be able to:

  1. Explain why home-based delivery is the primary model for denervated muscle ES and what makes it more effective than clinic-only treatment

  2. Apply the training science concept of adherence as the foundation of programme design and identify the conditions that support it

  3. Describe the structured pathway from supervised initiation to independent home use and identify when professional input is essential

  4. Recognise the safety considerations specific to home-based ES and explain how they are managed through training, technology, and review

Chapter 10 addressed the question of device specification based on what a patient needs and how to set its parameters over time. This chapter addresses an equally important question: how does the patient sustain the programme long enough for it to work?
